To be honest, most of Tom Waits music I find uninspiring and blah (but that's not surprising, because I find a lot of music to be like that).

However, I've found about a handful of his music which pokes me in ALL the right ways.

It makes me shiver with delight, or shiver with something, anyway.

For example: Poor Edward, and Fish and Bird, and Little Drop of Poison.
